In the year of its 50th anniversary Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire) has been transformed into an audio drama by Ray Davies and Olivier-nominated playwright, Paul Sirett.
Like the album, the radio play will tell the story of a close-knit, working-class family torn apart after Ray’s brother-in-law, Arthur, decides to move his family halfway around the world to Australia.
Songs from Arthur will be woven into the narrative and appear throughout the play – some of which have been reworked especially for the adaptation.
Arthur will premiere on BBC Radio 4 on Saturday November 2nd at 2:30pm

“The album Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire) is inspired by real-life events. Arthur’s generation returned from war to find Britain’s future in the midst of cultural and social change and political uncertainty, much like today. A play set yesterday about all our tomorrows.” Ray Davies
